Heading north into the Bitterroot River valley, the expedition crosses several tributaries to the East Fork Bitterroot River. When they reach the West Fork, it becomes a “considerable river”. Everybody is hungry, and Pvt. Whitehouse expresses relief when hunters bring in two deer.
